Mom Magic: Mommies have magic. All of us, the minute we become
moms. I joke with my kids that a super-secret pouch of magic mommy dust
is issued to you when you are given your child. It's the stuff that
nightmares are banished with and the special ingredient in "kiss-a-boo-boo"
emergencies that makes everything all better.
There are many ways to become a mom, but once you're a mom you're a member of a
one of a kind club.
A sisterhood of women
who understand what it means to lay awake at night worrying about your "babies". Knowing that while life is all about choices,
sometimes the only choice you get is how to respond to the situation
presented.
I have loved ones spread out all over the globe, but we
share one vision for our children; that they be safe, loved, healthy, happy,
contributing members of their community.
And we watch and contemplate as world events unfold, crisis, tragedy, profoundly
impacting the future
Lucky for us, our children have their own magic, and as
mommies, we get to go along for their ride through childhood. Innocence,
pure love, fantasy and distraction from all things grown-up . On Monday my
youngest asked me, "Do you know what the saddest sound in the world
is"? I thought about recent world events, the devastation, fear,
uncertainty. "What?" I asked, "What is the saddest
sound?", "it's when the guy says, 'Attention Disneyland guests,
the park will be closing in 15 minutes"."
And right there I was magically transported to our last Disneyland
visit, and reminded of the role Disneyland has played
for our family in providing moments of absolute magic over the years.
We moms infuse our magic in much the same way, day-to-day,
almost rote at times. We give because we
love. Mommy-hood is journey with highs
and lows. Here's to those unexpected
magic moments of love that we share with our "babies" as we navigate the world
of a mom.
Best,
Valeri
